The ‘Lone Star’ is spring/summer gender neutral collection represents the spirit of
independence and self-confidence. Inspired by cowboys and vintage work wear, these
denim products explore the memory of cloth and how the body imprints on the surface of the
textiles to create a visual history of the wearers and their environments, to create a collection
that embodies strength, courage and a non-conformist attitude.

Tell me about your project.

Fashion is the freedom to express ourselves without the use of words, and empower the
wearer to visually communicate their individual identity. Increasing the spirit of
independence, confidence, self-love and self-esteem are at the forefront of this collection. In
order to reduce the discharge of chemicals in to local waterways during the dyeing and
laundry of denim products, this collection adopted environmentally sustainable processing
and colouring techniques, using natural colours without any chemical components and water
(Chitosan).

What have you enjoyed most with your collaboration with Heavy Jeans?

This industry project provided me with the wonderful opportunity to develop a range of
innovate and sustainable denim-based products. The regular meetings with the Heavy Jeans
design team enabled me to learn about all the new sustainable design and production
practices at the forefront of denim innovation, and subsequently develop a commercial
collection that adheres to the principles of circular design. Working with Heavy Jeans
allowed me to develop my professional practice and confidence whilst collaborating with an
international denim brand

How has this experience informed your practice as a designer?
The chance to work on a collaborative project with Heavy Jeans provided me with the
opportunity to explore various innovative design methodologies and focus on new
sustainable design and production practices.

Why is sustainability important in the fashion industry?

As a young designer, sustainable design and production-based methodologies is at the
centre of my professional practice. With a strong focus on preserving our natural resources
and implementing safe working practices for all, I explore innovation and longevity in the
materials, techniques and processes in order to design products that will last many years.
