Tell me about your project?
This collection was inspired by the belief of fighting against the pandemic, combining small forces into huge potential, and making the global human beings unite as one. Referencing historical Asian armour as a metaphor for protection, I used organic cotton dyed with natural dyes, and embroidery are used to express the theme of environmental protection.
What have you enjoyed most with your collaboration with Heavy Jeans?
This live project with Heavy Jeans has enabled me to explore the brand’s history and produce a range of innovative commercial designs. Encouraged by the regular feedback from the design team provided me with the opportunity to express my design aesthetic and find beauty in simple and quality construction.
How has this work informed your practice as a designer?
The collaborative project with Heavy Jeans has taught me that design does not always have to be exaggerated and dreamlike, but commercial can still represent sustainable, socio-cultural and environmental issues. It has enabled me to step outside of my comfort zone and explore different design fields to enrich my creativity and design practice.
Why is sustainability important in the fashion industry?
Everyone needs to wear clothes, so the demand is ever increasing. The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters on the planet and continued large scale production will have an unreversible and detrimental impact on our environment. As designers, we have the responsibility to design and produce sustainable products that reduce the negative environmental impact.
